Saturday Lighthouse

This picture was taken from the cruise ship as we approached the port at Naples, Italy on our Mediterranean Cruise. This stop was definitely one of the highlights of the cruise. From Naples we took a bus on the Amalfi coast trail, which is so narrow and winding that people have to stop at the curves to let other cars or buses or trucks go past. The view is spectacular. On our way back to the ship, we were able to pay a visit to Pompeii. I've linked to a historical account of the destruction of Pompeii here. It is really interesting to see how the restoration process is going and on how really advanced the city was before it was destroyed.  I have some pictures I may share with you some day, but for this Saturday, just enjoy the small lighthouse.

Have a great weekend!

Linda Kay

The Amalfi Coast, I think, is one of the most beautiful places in the world. Hubs and I were there one year in April, just before Easter, so before the crowds. We stayed in a beautiful hotel in Amalfi called The Santa Caterina-absolutely gorgeous!! I especially love the little town of Ravello, perced up high on the hill. I'd love to go back one day.

h-m-m-m, I wonder who is in the yacht motoring past the lighthouse on the other side of the lighthouse. Wow, you got two ships and a tanker. Lots to look at in this photo. Lovely :)

Italy has been in the news recently for its terrible poverty and inability to keep the beautiful relics protected and continue restorations. Very sad.

i like the statue out front, sort of blessing or greeting ships.

I bet that statue out front is huge, but compared to the lighthouse it's so small. Beautiful!

Do the HOA's across the bay make them turn the light off after 10PM?

Spectacular shot Linda Kay. My son went to Pompeii several years ago with his grandfather. I remember his photos and enthusiasm as he told me all about his visit. Quite an amazing place.

I loved Naples - the National museum is a must see.

Pompeii was my highlight, though. I'd wanted to see that my whole life, and it didn't disappoint.

That whole area is amazing isn't it! We went there on holiday in 2013 and enjoyed it so much. Pompeii is incredible isn't it and so is Herculaneum! xx
