Caves where monsters dwell...

Thanks to all who stopped by to join in last Wednesday! September is fading fast!

Here's hoping some of you, my faithful readers, might join me in posting a story with a picture for Wednesday Wit and Wisdom.  The challenge is to post a picture on your blog, then write a short story or a poem about the picture as a writing exercise.  When you have your blog written, you can link up for others to read.  Feel free to also add your picture and story to another link of your choice. The link up is on my WWW page here. This is #37!

It looked like the topography of an alien planet with mountains, valleys, and deep dark caves for monsters to dwell.

She had walked to this place, haunted by the death of a dear friend. He was so young. The weather was hot and dry, but the brief interlude of rain had made the highway slick from the melting tar. Death was instant. No ambulance, no hospital, no close family.

The walk to this place, her sacred and secret place, was her escape from depression. She had to ask God Why? Why now, why so young? What might have been, if he had lived to hold her just once more?

She sat on a rock and listened to the sounds of birds and cicadas, imagining the creek bed full of water, tripping over stones along the way. The vision gave her peace as though God has answered her plea.

Your turn. Find a picture, write a story and post to your blog, then come back and join us to share.

Nature is soothing and healing. It can be such a refuge in your times of sorrow. Thank you for this beautiful image and these words.

Very evocative. The place itself has the look of a locale where one might expect some creature out of Tolkien's imagination to surface.

The photo made me lean back and try and refocus. Hopefully it made her refocus also.
