Friday Review

Joining in today with Five on Friday and Willy Nilly Friday 5 to share some pictures and comments from this past week. Thanks for hosting, ladies!

This was a week of birthdays. May 2 is my granddaughter Macy's birthday...just turned 20! Yikes, how does that happen? Macy is a St. Louis Cardinals fan and loves bike and auto racing. She is a sophomore in college and works at a child-care facility.

On Wednesday Carson turned 9. You have seen him on the blog many times in his baseball and football games. If you saw pictures of his dad at this age, it would be like twins.

And last but not least, my hubby had a birthday on Thursday. I can't even describe how much he means to me. He's the best!

We have been watching our very tall cactus bloom, waiting for it to open. A neighbor stopped by to let us know they have been watching it as they go around our corner.

The students in the schools here in South Central Texas will be taking the STAAR Tests this week for the government to study and to determine their skill levels (sigh). Many of the schools no longer teach cursive writing. I found this little quote (I have no idea from whom) and thought I'd share it with you.

Have a wonderful Friday and a happy weekend. I'm going to check out the movies to see if anything is on worthwhile. They are having an Indie film festival here in Fredericksburg this week, showing the talents of some folks who haven't yet made it to the big time. We have a potluck to go to tonight, and I am bringing some sort of appetizer. Hmmmm.

Hi Linda Kay, What a nice post here. I sure enjoyed the little note about cursive writing. So many of my old postcards have a message written in cursive ... it's funny, but true, that will be like a secret code in the future. Very interesting! Wishing you a fine weekend ahead!

Cute kids! And how time flies, huh. They grow up way too fast while we never age. I wonder how that can happen? LOL I like the quote about cursive. So true. Good grief! And it's a little sad, too, to see how some young people hold a pencil to try to write or as in the case of a server at a restaurant lately, to take an order. Obviously no one helped her learn to write. Going through our cousin's stuff, we've come across old papers where the cursive writing was absolutely beautiful! Too bad it's a lost art. Hope you have a great weekend.

Happy Birthday to all of your family members who have been celebrating this week!! Very exciting!! I love the idea of writing as a code, you are right though, it is all texting these days and the art of writing is sadly no longer important. Love your yucca! Thank you for joining Five On Friday this week, hope you have an enjoyable weekend!

Happy belated birthday to all involved!

I remember learning 'joined up writing' as it was called. I wasn't ever good at it. Still am not. I have really nice handwriting but I find it a lot easier to print.

Have a great weekend

Happy Birthday to all. Lovely photos of those celebrating. Your cactus bloom is really pretty. Your quote is a sign of things to come, a secret code will be a good description. Have a great weekend Linda Kay.

Donut holes make a great appetizer. We went through a lot of fussery at my daughter's elementary school when the fourth grade teachers yelled at the kids because they didn't know cursive. Turns out it was no longer part of the third grade curriculum. The third-grade teachers could teach it if they had time. They didn't have time. Few teachers seemed to have time to teach anything. They were too busy filling out paperwork for state requirements. Happy birthday to all the birthday babies in your family, especially your favorite husband.

Love,
Janie

Happy birthday to all! What a fun family celebration you must all have. Kay, I didn't know you are in Fredericksburg! I live in Austin! I love Fredericksburg!
That blooming cactus is fabulous. I love to see their flowers.

Re: the schools no longer teaching cursive: I can't tell you how sad that made me when I heard it. Can't believe that cursive writing will soon be a lost art form! Very sad indeed.

Have a wonderful weekend. We're looking at another gorgeous day today. I spent yesterday pulling limbs down as my ex trimmed my trees. Today will be another day outside. I love this gorgeous weather and try to enjoy every bit of it before the Texas heat descends upon us. Then all I do is stay in the air conditioning. Yuk!

Happy birthday to your loved ones! May is a busy month! Yucca is a wonderful plant...I love having so many here. Yours will grow lush and full one day! Oh, and cursive...we have our grandson for this last month & a half to finish out the school year (daughter & son-in-law already moved to OR) and we have been teaching him cursive. He has written the Lords's Prayer over and over, and the Preamble to the Constitution and other things. He's doing very well. I had him read the little note on your post just now. :-) Cause it's the TRUTH!!! :-) There's a conspiracy that's for sure!
